This vast region stretches north of the line binding Greenock to Dundee and incorporates a wide diversity of landscapes. Highland whiskies are subdivided into four regions : the Sothern Highlands produce a light, fruity single malt; the Western Highlands, salty, smokey malts like Oban; the Northern Highlands, powerful, salty malts with a peaty flavour and lighter whiskies such as Glenmorangie and Dalmore; the Eastern Highlands, subtle single malts marked by a cereal flavour.
